It is Written

I'm starting a new (fairly major) project and as a result was looking through my book of quotes today and ran across this one:

A handwritten personal letter has become a genuine modern-day luxury, like a child's pony ride.
-Shana Alexander

Here's a suggestion... When you get the chance, write out a letter or jot down a short note. Slip it into an envelope and send it to someone you care for. All it takes is a few moments and a stamp. Trust me, that small effort will add such a bright spot to someones day.

Because,
'The written word remains. The spoken word takes wing and cannot be recalled.'
-Horace

Very true. One of our gifts for christmas this year was a set of 24 cards that we had made. The letter that went with them said:

We hope that you will not keep this gift. That is right. Instead, we intend for you to give this away to someone else, card by card.

Each of these cards includes a photograph that I have taken in the last year or two, a quote we selected, and a brief bit about the actual picture. However, I have intentionally left the entire inside of the card blank. You see, these cards are incomplete. They are waiting for you to pen your own words in them.

In this day of electronic mail, text messages, and emoticons, handwritten cards are few and far between. Holiday, birthday and anniversary cards are fine, but the unexpected “just because” cards have the greatest potential for making someone’s day. Please use these to catch up with an old friend, to encourage someone who is feeling down, or just to let someone know you have been thinking about them.

Oh Lime, I so happy for that person!
:-)

Chris, What a lovely Christmas present idea and with your photography it's a gift for the recipient of the card too!

Were you aware that I'm a card maker? I too intentionally leave the interior of my cards blank with the sole purpose of inviting people to share their thoughts not some stock message.

See, I just KNEW you were a kindred spirit!
:-)
