Yeah, I'm down with all that's Tech

I added to my blog roll (check out, Christy & Amy) AND included a link you'll find if you scroll down the page...
And here's the REAL COOL part... I did it sans 'Techno Man' aka, my son.
Just call me 'Madame HTML'

Anyway, about that link... Sorry, self promotion takes precedence to 'Feeding the World'... I'm working on humility... No really, I am!

Free Rice! Click on it and if you're competitive in any way (like me), I dare you to try and stop. I was up until after midnight last night telling myself, "Just one more word... Just one more definition... Just another 1,000 grains of rice for the hungry!"

You see, it works like this:

In the middle of the FreeRice Home page you will see something like:

small means:

little
old
big
yellow

To play the game, click on one of the four definitions (“little,” “old,” “big,” or “yellow”) that you think is correct. If you get it right, FreeRice donates 20 grains of rice to help end hunger. In the example above, you would want to click on “little,” which means “small.” You will then get a chance to do another word the same way. You can play as long as you like and give as much rice as you like.

What's in it for you?:

Learning new vocabulary has tremendous benefits. It can help you:

  • Formulate your ideas better
  • Write better papers, emails and business letters
  • Speak more precisely and persuasively
  • Comprehend more of what you read
  • Read faster because you comprehend better
  • Get better grades in high school, college and graduate school
  • Score higher on tests like the SAT, GRE, LSAT and GMAT
  • Perform better at job interviews and conferences
  • Sell yourself, your services, and your products better
  • Be more effective and successful at your job

After you have done FreeRice for a couple of days, you may notice an odd phenomenon. Words that you have never consciously used before will begin to pop into your head while you are speaking or writing. You will feel yourself using and knowing more words.

So why are you sitting here reading this?... Go, click on the link, build your brain-power and more importantly, Feed the Hungry!

Eureka!

I found her... I Finally found her!

Sometime last year I called the local salon to schedule an appointment with my favorite hairdresser, Patricia. Can you imagine my horror when the receptionist said, "Patricia isn't with us anymore." Now, I'm not sure what the protocol is on this sort of thing so I was reluctant to ask where she went... I mean, is it proper etiquette to call a salon and then say something to the effect of, "Well, I was only gracing my presence at your establishment because I like that one stylist... You know, Patricia?... Because she was really excellent and the rest of you I could give a flying fig about." Yeah, No, I'm just not that blunt. So I didn't ask and hung my disheveled locks in despair. I waited until the last possible minute to find a stand-in stylist... Someone who 'might' do the 'do' I adored but nothing compared to the way Patricia did my hair... And you know, it's not so much they way she did my hair but more the way she treated me as a customer. Patricia was the rare breed of stylist who listened, advised without being critical and always valued her customers. One time I arrived a little early for an appointment... Patricia was running a little behind and even though I didn't mind catching up on some light gossip mag reading, she instructed the shampoo girl to treat me to a hand massage while I waited. A hand message I'll never forget, not just because it felt WUN-DER-FUL but because Patricia said, "I value your time and I want to make up for, making you, have to wait on me." I know, Awesome, right?

Anyway, fast forward to about 2 months ago when I read in the paper that a new hair salon was opening in town, in a brand new strip mall, just 3 minutes from my house. I noted that the owners name was Patricia but I wasn't 100% sure it was indeed MY Patricia. So I went to the website Mirror Mirror Salon and checked out the pictures of the staff. Unfortunately, at the time, there was no picture of Patricia. That's okay, I'll just bide my time, I wasn't particularly desperate at that point. Last week however, my daughter informed me that she was simply dying to get her haircut so I checked back at the website and there was Patricia's sweet face. I immediately made an appointment for myself with Patricia for the following week. My daughter didn't really care who cut her hair so she opted not to wait and got it cut that night.

So today, Patricia cut my hair for the first time in over a year. It was so good to see her and remarkable to hear the details of why she left the other salon. She had a baby since I last saw her and opened her own business... A busy girl to be sure. After she finished cutting my hair (remembering all the details of what I like and don't like done with the styling) I stood up from the chair with a big smile and a thank you and she said, "Oh give me a hug... It's so good to see you again!"... Now, if I can only get 'em to treat me like that at WalMart.

Coming To A Mall Near You?

Yes, I love theater... I feel a bit embarrassed for the performers but c'mon, that's part of the joy I guess, is putting yourself out there for either ridicule or applause.

Hey, Wait... Where ya goin?

You're in the right place!

Welcome... Enjoy the new ambiance... If you take a deep breath you just might be able to sweet smell the gardenia blossoms blooming in the corner.

This evening the boy genius and I swept away the old Blogger Sand color and replaced it with the lovely teal and chocolate you see before you... And if for some reason the new look offends you... Well, it's all about the witty repartee... And if you find the blogging to be sub-par... Well, what the heck are you doin' here?

I promise to write something interesting soon... Until then, enjoy the new style of my little corner of the blogging world.

'Stuff'

Saturday was Community Yard Sale day... I HATE Yard Sales, especially my own. There's nothing more humiliating to me than placing what was once a much loved treasure on a table in my driveway, then have some cheap dipstick pick it up with a smidge of interest and a face full of disgust and ask me, "How much?" Only to roll there eyes and drop said item like a hot potato, after I quote them a price 30 times less than what I paid for it... Then there's the folks who can't even take the time to exit their vehicle... These folks simply go for the slo-mo drive by and sneer... As if to say, "Keep movin' Cletus, thar aint nothin' but shit here!"

HOWEVER, the yard sale we had this Saturday wasn't quite as bad because according to a lot of the people who stopped by, we had "Some nice stuff!" Particularly my friend Lori's 'stuff'... I should mention that the people who complimented our 'stuff' always had their backs to my particular table laden with cast-off gems whenever they tossed out compliments, but I didn't take it personally, oh no, not me.

It's unfortunate that the yard sale was necessary for my friend Lori to try to sell off items belonging to her mother who was recently moved to a small room at an Alzheimer's facility... Quite simply there's just no room for all of the antiques, doo-dads, hoo-haws and whatnots...

BUT!

I found something that I'm holding near and dear to my heart for ever and ever... Lori bestowed it on my without even having to pay for it, even though I would've been happy to give her my left foot for such a treasure... Behold, my 'Big Tittied, Finely Crafted, Sexy, Rubber, Belly Dancer Doll'

Crank the little rod in her base and she undulates the top half of her body. Is she not glorious? True, her breasts appear to have been fondled one too many times by someone with dirty, dirty hands and probably a dirty, dirty mind too, but I think a bit of mild soap and water will clean her up nicely.

Oh, and the other treasure I picked among the 'stuff'... I say, 'STUFF' because that's what Lori insisted on calling it... I however, referred to it all as 'Shit' or 'Crap'... But it's true that one mans 'Shit', 'Crap' or even 'Stuff' can be another mans 'Treasure' and this, this I consider a treasure simply for the joke factor...
So if anyone wants to prank call me, I'll be able to say "YES, I HAVE Prince Albert in a Can! and NO, I won't let him out!"
